ulcer care

Venous leg ulcers are caused by poor blood flow in the veins, which carry blood from the legs to the heart. This can be because the valves in the veins, which are supposed to act as check valves, do not close tightly or because the calf muscles are less able to pump blood towards the heart. A common cause is varicose veins; a less common cause may be that you have previously had a blood clot in your leg.

You may have a venous leg ulcer if you have an ulcer around your ankles or lower leg and at the same time have varicose veins, leg swelling, brown pigmentation or eczema on your leg
